Philippines eyeing to import pork, fish for Christmas holidays

The Philippine Department of Agriculture may facilitate imports of chicken, pork and fish ahead of the yearend holidays to avert supply problems and their possible impact on prices. Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol said he will discuss with stakeholders the volume of imports required for pork and round scad.

The Philippines can import up to 54,000 tonnes of pork under the Minimum Access Volume (MAV) scheme. Secretary Piñol said he expects to authorise additional imports of 8000 -10,000 tonnes of pork before the Christmas season.
