Poland intends to build a shipping canal across the Vistula Spit


The government of Poland has approved a draft law on the construction of a shipping canal across the Vistula Spit. Owing to this canal, navy and border guard vessels will get free access to the ports. This will enhance the security of the border of Poland and of the EU as a whole. Reportedly, this step will help Poland overcome its dependence on Russia.

UkrAgroConsult reminds a tender was issued in Poland for building a canal across the Vistula Spit. The canal is to be constructed in the village of Novy Mir, district of Shtutovo. According to the design, it will be 1.1 km-long, 80 m-wide and 5 m-deep. The government lately estimated the construction cost at PLN 880 Ml (USD 210 Ml).
