Rising incomes to boost Philippine processed meat sector

17.10.2017

The Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc (Pampi) said growing incomes will allow Filipinos to buy more items, including meat, which will spur double-digit growth for the processed meat sector. The group said the sector has been growing steadily at 10% and may hit 12% as the country’s per capita GDP nears the USD 3000 mark. Initial projections show that the sector is nearing the USD 15.69 billion mark.

However, Pampi will verify the figure since it would translate to a per capita daily processed meat consumption of only USD 0.16 a day, which Pampi VP Jerome Ong said is an “unbelievably low amount.”
