Romania. During July-May 2016/17 barley exports are 41% lower than last season

In May 2017 Romania exported about 38 KMT barley, which was almost in line with May 2016 - 39.4 KMT. This volume was higher than  5-year average for May barley shipments (21 KMT).

In May 2017 key buyers were UAE – 27 KMT and Israel – 5.8 KMT. UAE made its first purchase of Romanian barley this season (56 KMT over the whole previous season).

Thus, since the beginning of 2016/17 (July-May) Romania exported 886 KMT of barley (-41.2% y/y).

Over July-May 2016/17 lower purchasing activity is seen from Saudi Arabia (305.6 KMT against 601 KMT over the same period of 2015/16), Jordan (52.5 KMT against 174 KMT), Libya (103.5 KMT against 178 KMT),  Japan (7.6 KMT against 130 KMT), Tunisia – (27.5 KMT against 80 KMT), Israel – (75 KMT against 78 KMT), Algeria (35 KMT against 68.7 KMT). This season Iran didn`t purchase any Romanian barley so far (27.5 KMT over the same period last year).

Higher demand is observed from Spain 46 KMT (27.3 KMT over July - May 2015/16), Greece -  42 KMT (23 KMT). Turkey returned to the barley market of Romania this season, importing 40 KMT.
