Romania. Farmers will shortly begin large-scale harvesting of corn and sunflower

22.08.2018

Last week’s air temperatures in Romania were 4-6°С above long-term normals (+20..+30°С). Almost no precipitation occurred this past week, therefore the topsoil dried in the south-west of Romania. 0-100 cm soil moisture is at optimal and close to optimal levels almost all over the country. Droughty weather was only seen locally in the south-east, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Corn is at the stages of milk-wax and full ripeness. Sunflower is physiologically ripe, even fully ripe in the south. Farmers will begin large-scale harvesting of this crop in the near future.

At the moment, corn and sunflower are mostly in good condition. However, high air temperature (above +32°С) adversely affects spring crops.
