Romania. Gradual development of soil drought in the north-east

29.11.2017

High air temperatures were registered in the south of the country (2-4°С above long-term normal).  Daytime air temperature stayed within -1..+7°С throughout the week. It rose to +16°С in the south early in the week. Frost events down to -6°С occurred in the north overnight into November 23.

Plants of winter wheat and barley are at the stages of emergence and tillering. Rape plants have developed 6-13-leaf rosettes. In the south, where soil moisture content is optimum, the plant development pace is ahead of the long-term average, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Rainfalls occurred everywhere except for the north-east (5-10 mm over the week). Their rates reached 25 mm in the north-west. Soil drought gradually develops in the north-east of the country. Soil moisture content (0-20-cm layer) in other regions is at sufficient and optimum levels favorable for crop development.
