Romania: high air temperatures facilitate further growth of winter crops

14.12.2017

High air temperatures were reported almost all over the country (2..4°С above normal). The daytime air temperature stayed within a range of -4..+10°C throughout the week. Precipitation occurred everywhere; West Romania received some 25 mm, mostly in the form of rain. It snowed in northern, eastern and central areas of Romania (5-15 mm).

The weather warmed up in the latter half of the week, when air temperatures reached +15…+16°С in the south of Romania. This abnormal warmth prevents growth cessation in winter crops.

Plants of winter wheat and barley are at the stages of three leaves and tillering. Rape plants have developed 7-13-leaf rosettes. Winter crops are mostly in good condition.
