Romania. High air temperatures speed up plant growth

High air temperatures (up 2-6°С above long-term normal) dominated the entire country. Daytime air temperature stayed within +5..+10°С throughout the week. It reached +16°С in the south early in the week. Frost events of down to -2°С occurred in the south overnight into November 18.

The 5-10-cm soil layer warmed up to +2..+13°С that favored the development of winter crops. Plants of winter wheat and winter barley are at the stage of emergence and tillering. Rape plants have developed 6-13-leaf rosettes. In the south, where soil moisture supply is optimum, plants develop at a faster pace than the long-term average.

Rainfalls occurred everywhere except for the north-eastern regions (10-25 mm over the week). Soil moisture content in the 0-20-cm layer is at adequate and optimum levels in many regions that is favorable for plant development.
