Romania. Snow cover protecting winter crops from winter-kill

Last week, air temperatures were slightly below the long-term average (down 2-4°С) in the north and east of the country. A brief night temperature decrease to -18°С was registered in North Romania on February 20. Daytime air temperature varied within a range of -7..+3°С throughout the week.

Abundant snowfalls occurred in the south and north of Romania (25-30 mm), and snow cover was established there. Precipitation rates equaled 5-10 mm in the rest of the country.

Owing to sufficient snow cover in frost-exposed areas, winter crops faced no risk of winter kill this past week. However, a risk of crop damage may arise locally in the west this week as air temperatures keep falling (-10°С..-15°С).

Romanian meteorologists expect a lot of precipitation all over the country, reports UkrAgroConsult.
