Romania. Spring crop yields higher than last year

Elevated air temperatures (4-6°С above long-term normals) were registered all over the country this past week. The average air temperature varied within +20...+30°С.

Small rain fell in central and southern parts of Romania (10-25 mm over the week). Due to elevated air temperatures, moisture supply has dwindled noticeably in the past several weeks, currently being mostly at a fair level in all growing regions. Moisture deficits are reported in the west and south-east.

Corn is at the stage of milk and wax ripeness, being fully ripe in the south. Its condition is mostly good. Farmers are preparing to harvest corn on a large-scale basis, expecting its crop to be heavier than last year, reports UkrAgroConsult. The sunseed harvest started on August 20. Growers report high sunseed yields owing to sufficient precipitation in June and July.

Meteorologists forecast favorable weather for accelerating the harvest within the next seven days, as rain is only predicted in the north of Romania.
