Romania. Sunseed harvest is almost complete

07.09.2017

Above-normal air temperatures persisted all over the country. Daytime air temperatures were within a range of +20..+28°С. They reached 36-37°С in the western and southern regions. The average daily air temperature was 4-7°C above normal in the west and south – this continued exhausting soil moisture reserves. Little precipitation was registered last week, mostly in the north and locally in the south-east (5-7 mm for the week).

High air temperatures cause yellowing and rolling of corn leaves; farmers keep harvesting this crop. The sunseed harvest is actually complete. According to market players, the hot weather reduced the sunseed productivity potential, particularly in the south, and the average yield turned out to be lower than expected. Soil preparation before planting winter crops is constrained by moisture shortages, reports UkrAgroConsult.
