Romania. Weather favors growth of winter crops

Air temperatures were 4-9°С above normal all over the country. Daytime air temperature was within a range of +10..+18°С throughout the week.

The 5-cm soil layer warmed up to +7..+18°С that is favorable for growth of winter crops, whose planting is actually complete. Winter wheat and winter barley are at the stages of emergence and tillering.

Rape plants have developed 4-7-leaf rosettes. Their development pace is ahead of the long-term average in the south, where soil moisture content was optimum, reports UkrAgroConsult.  

Minor precipitation (5-10 mm) occurred in the north of the country. In many regions, the 0-20-cm soil layer contains sufficient and optimum amounts of moisture that contributes to normal crop growth.

Soil moisture oversupply is reported locally in the south and north of Romania. Moisture shortages are registered on vast expanses in the east, particularly in the region of Moldova and in the south-eastern region of Dobruja.

The harvest of late corn varieties is drawing to an end in Romania.
