Romania. Winter crops are mostly in good condition


A cold-spell happened in Romanis this past week. Air temperatures were 2-4°С below long-term normals. They dropped to -17°С in the north on January 15-17. Daytime air temperatures stayed within -2..+4°С throughout the week. They restored to long-term normals in the middle of the week. 

Precipitation occurred everywhere that has resulted in the establishment of snow cover. Its rates totaled 25-35 mm in northern, central and western parts of the country. Snow cover reaches 5-19 cm there. The south received some 10-15 mm of precipitation. The ground is snow-free in the western region bordering on Hungary, as well as in the Danube Delta region. 

Winter crops are dormant. Winter wheat and barley plants are at the three-leaf and tillering stages. Rape plants have developed 7-14-leaf rosettes. Winter crops are mostly in good condition, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Due to alternating freeze and thaw in the soil, meteorologists report the development of frost-lifting processes in winter crops.
