Romanian farmers completed harvesting sunflower


Last week average air temperature decreased in Romania. In some places it was lower than the norm by 1-2 ºС, fluctuating within  +9..+18ºС with maximums reaching +28ºС in the South and South-East.

5 -m soil layer warmed to +9..+18ºС, which was still favorable for further winter crops sowing and for germination of wheat, barley and rapeseed sowings.

Abundant rains were observed in the Southern and South-Eastern regions. Locally in the Southern regions fields were wet from rains, exceeding 7-day norm (80-100 mm) and replenished moisture stocks in soil, suffering from long-term drought.

According to UkrAgroConsult, farmers of Romania have completed harvesting of sunflower in all agricultural areas. They continue to harvest corn and plant winter grain and oilseed crops.

Romanian market operators estimate that 2016 sunflower crop is lower than last year (1.67 MMT against 1.78 MMT). Corn yields vary from region to region. In the South and South-East is in line with last year, but in the Western parts it is better than in 2015.
