Romanian farmers started to harvest soybean

09.09.2016

Last week excessive air temperature regime was observed in many agricultural regions of Romania. Air temperatures exceeded the norms by 2-7ºС and varied within +13..+27ºС with maximums reaching +33ºС in the South and South-East.

Light rains were observed in the Central parts (10-15 mm) and higher quantities (15-35 mm) were noted in the Eastern and Southern parts, particularly in the region of Dobrogea and Muntenia. Precipitations will alleviate soil drought in this area and help farmers in winter crops sowing.

Northern regions started sowing of winter rapeseed during August 15-20 despite the dry soil and should finish sowing works by September, 5 to meet the optimal terms. Early sown rapeseed is at the stage of germination.  Southern regions will continue rapeseed sowing up till September 15-25.

Plants of sunflower are at the stage of complete maturity. Farmers continue massive harvesting of sunflower. According to the estimates of Romanian Agrarian Ministry, this year due to the heat stress sunflower crop will decrease to 1.74 MMT against 1.758 MMT obtained in 2015. Moreover, Romanian farmers started harvesting of soybeans, which are also highly affected by the drought.
