Romanian farmers started to harvest summer crops

15.08.2017

Warmer-than-normal air temperatures dominated the entire country (up 4..6ºС from the multi-year average for this time). The average weekly air temperature varied within +26...+32ºС over the week. The maximum temperature rose to +39ºС in the south and south-west.

Moisture content in the 0-100-cm soil horizon is at a sufficient level almost all across the country, except for the west and the south-west. This past week, precipitation occurred in the northern and central regions (10-25 mm). The increased air temperatures were unfavorable for growth of spring crops and provoked soil moisture evaporation.

Corn plants are at the milky ripeness stage, locally at the beginning of waxy ripeness.

Sunflower crops are waxy- or fully ripe. Farmers have started sunseed harvesting in the south, reports UkrAgroConsult.
