Russia. Active supplies of wheat to Africa


According to preliminary information of market participants, Russia exported 1396 KMT of wheat in July 2017/18, or 10% less than at the same time last year (1554 KMT was in July 2016), reports UkrAgroConsult.

Egypt and Turkey were still the key end markets for Russian wheat in the period under review. Also, in the first month of the season, Russia actively exported wheat to the market of Lebanon. The country absorbed over 150 KMT, or 11% of total supplies.

Quite a lot of Russian wheat was shipped to African markets, including Nigeria, Sudan, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and others. At the same time, monthly supplies of Russian wheat to Cameroon hit a high of 65.5 KMT. Russia started exporting its product to this country last season. Russia supplied more than 230 KMT of wheat to Cameroon in MY 2016/17.

As a reminder, a record 27 MMT of wheat was exported from Russia in MY 2016/17.
