Russia. Agrometeorological conditions and winter crops


Cold weather persisted in the North-Western, Central and Volga federal districts between December 1-10. The average daily air temperature was 2-6° below normal throughout this period. Precipitation amounted to 15-25 mm in most areas during the ten days, only some parts of the Volga federal district received 10-12 mm.

In the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts, cold weather persisted almost everywhere and winter crops did not resume growth. In most parts of these districts, winter crops were covered with 5 to 10 cm of snow. The lowest soil temperature at the 3 cm-depth was registered at -4…-1°C. The conditions were fair for survival of winter crops.
