Russia and the United States discussed cooperation in the field of agriculture


The Ministry of agriculture discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between Russia and the United States in the field of agriculture

11 September 2017 Director of international cooperation Department of the Ministry of agriculture of Russia Olga Garshina held a working meeting with Plenipotentiary Minister, counselor of the Embassy of the USA in Russia on agriculture by Diane Aloi.

During the meeting the sides discussed topical issues of Russian-American cooperation in agriculture, including in the sphere of veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance.

In 2016, the Russian export to the USA increased by 22% in comparison with 2015. For 7 months of 2017, the trade turnover between the two countries exceeded 300 million US dollars.

"Currently, Russia is implementing the program of import substitution. The task of reducing the share of imports in the agricultural sector were set by the Government in 2010. By 2020 we plan to reach the level of food self-sufficiency at 90%", — said Olga Garshina.

The Russian side expressed readiness to develop bilateral cooperation with the United States in the field of agriculture, including the inflow of American investments in the agricultural sector.

"In Russia all conditions for work of foreign companies in the agricultural sector. Companies that invest in Russian agriculture, given the necessary government support," - said the Director of the Department of international cooperation.

The parties discussed issues of exchange of information and analytical data in agriculture, as well as resumption of the Russian-American Working group on agriculture, headed by the agriculture Ministers of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, the Russian side invited our American colleagues to participate in the Russian agro-industrial exhibition "Golden autumn-2017" to be held in Moscow from 4 to 7 October 2017.
