Russia building up flour exports to China’s market

16.11.2016

Russia exported 25 KMT of flour in September 2016, or 24% more than at the same time last year (20.16 KMT), reports UkrAgroConsult.

However, despite the September rise in shipments, Q1 2016/17 flour exports from Russia still lag 15% behind last season. So, roughly 51.9 KMT of Russian flour was shipped in July-September 2016/17 against 61 KMT at the same time in 2015/16.

The share of the UAE in Russian flour exports continues expanding. In general, China’s share follows an upward trend as well. It is worth stressing that, despite the overall decrease in Russian flour deliveries in the reporting period, shipments to China and the UAE doubled from the first quarter of last marketing year, informs UkrAgroConsult.

It is also worth noting that China is the key destination market for Ukrainian flour. Contrary to Russia, Ukraine reduced flour exports to this market in Q1 2016/17, though insignificantly.

More information on Ukrainian flour market is available in UkrAgroConsult's report "Ukraine. Wheat flour and bran market".
