Russia. Calculation of stevedores’ tariffs to be performed in RUB from 2018

Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded to switch to RUB when calculating tariffs for stevedoring companies from January 01, 2018. The head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russian Federation Igor Artemiev informed Putin that antimonopoly authority was suing a number of stevedoring companies and in some cases it achieved the result. According to the head of the FAS, such a measure will require foreign companies to purchase RUB for payments, which is also of interest to the Central Bank. This, in turn, will allow developing financial infrastructure.

The order to transfer port tariffs to RUB was first given by the President of Russian Federation a year and a half ago. At the same time, for large transport companies it is more comfortable to operate with tariffs in foreign currency, as RUB exchange rate may change. Earlier, it was Artemiev who applied to the President with this request, reporting that USD tariffs were still set in Novorossiysk commercial seaport.
