Russia doubled sunflower meal shipments to Europe

Russia exported 138.5 KMT of sunflower meal in November 2018/19, or 44.4% more than in the previous month and up 1% from November 2017/18.

In September-November 2018, sunflower meal shipments were up 2.3% year-on-year at 256.9 KMT against 251.1 KMT a year earlier, but they fall short of expectations in view of a bumper crop of sunflower seed, reports UkrAgroConsult.

However, a surge is expected in crushing and exports of processed products.

As before, the top importers of Russian sunflower meal in the 2018/19 season include the EU (a 70% export share) and Turkey (24%). Shipments to Europe doubled, while those to Turkey, on the contrary, were reduced by half.

In addition, Egypt has not yet entered the Russian sunflower meal market for purchasing this season, whereas the country had been a major importer of this product before.
