Russia. Favorable conditions for growth of winter cereals

Warmer-than-usual weather with air temperatures 2-4°C above normal was observed in the North-Western, Central and Volga federal districts on most days between October 11-20. Maximum air temperatures reached +17…+19°C in the south on the warmest days. Air and ground-surface frost events (down to -4…-2°C) occurred in some parts of the Volga federal district, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Most areas received 15-30 mm of precipitation over the ten days, while some areas in the north of the Central federal district and in parts of the North-Western district received even 40-45 mm and more. The harvest of late cereals and industrial crops was ending almost everywhere. It was only single days when the agrometeorological conditions were satisfactory for harvesting. On most of the days, they were scarcely favorable, locally poor because of frequent rainfalls and topsoil waterlogging.

The growing conditions for winter cereals were primarily favorable; the plants are well supplied with warmth and moisture. Only on some days, mostly on October 14-16, heat supply was insufficient for plant development (daytime air temperatures were +6…8°C).  Depending on the planting date, winter cereals were at the stages of emergence, leaf formation and tillering.
