Russia has become a world leader in the production of sugar beet


Last year the country attracted more than 50 million tons of sugar beet.

The Minister of agriculture, Alexander Tkachev, in a speech at the all-Russian agronomic meeting, said that Russia in 2016, took first place in the world in production of sugar beets, reports TASS.

"In 2016, was a record harvest of sugar beet – more than 50 million tons. Russia came in first place in the world, ahead of countries such as France, USA and Germany", — he said.

The Minister also noted that in the second half of 2016, Russia exported more than 100 thousand tons of sugar, thus becoming a major supplier of this product to the world market
