Russia is 90% supplied with vegetables of domestic production


Production of greenhouse vegetables in the country increased by 8% in 2016 and reached 691 thousand tons

 Russia at the end of 2016 reached self-sufficiency in vegetables 90%, to further enhance the indicator it is necessary to upgrade the existing greenhouses and building new ones, said the head of the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev.

    "Production of greenhouse vegetables (in 2016 – ed.) grew by 8% to 691 thousand tonnes. Commissioned 160 hectares of winter greenhouses. At the end of last year, the level of self-sufficiency in vegetables was about 90%", — said Alexander Tkachev, speaking at the all-Russian agronomical meeting.

At the same time, the Minister continued, to achieve full self-sufficiency in vegetables – especially tomatoes and cucumbers – by 2020, to annually increasing their production by 200 thousand tons. "This requires the upgrading and construction of greenhouse complexes of at least 400 hectares per year", — he added.
