Russia. Loss of winter crops totaled 3%

The State Statistics Service of Russia says loss of winter crops totaled 204.9 Th ha (3% of planted acreage) as of June 1, excluding small-business growers.

This included 185.7 Th ha of lost winter cereals and pulses (2.8%). Lost plantings of winter cereals totaled 177.5 Th ha (2.6%) in 2016, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Taking into account survived winter crops, combined sown area of cereals and pulses was 29.7 Ml ha as of the reporting date, or down 1.4% from June 1, 2016.

As a reminder, in early June, the Russian Ag Ministry reduced its forecast for Russia’s 2017 grain crop to 100-105 MMT because of adverse weather conditions. The ministry’s forecast for 2017/18 grain exports equals 37-38 MMT.
