Russia. Pea exports turned downward

A record pace of Russian pea exports early in the season promptly gave way to a lag in them. So, Russia exported 428 KMT of peas in the seven months of MY 2016/17, or 5% less than at the same time last season (450 KMT in July-January 2015/16), reports UkrAgroConsult.

Traditionally, the key importer of Russian peas in this period was Turkey, but its export share shrank (to 48% against 58% in MY 2015/16) because of expanding deliveries to other markets. In particular, the period under review saw higher shipments to India, the EU and Pakistan. In addition, Russian exporters restored pea deliveries to Egypt.

Russia’s 2016 pea crop of some 2.2 MMT was the largest since 1994.
