Russia. Planting of early spring cereals was in progress almost everywhere

On April 11-20, air temperatures in the North-Western and Central federal districts of Russia were close to the long-term average. On some days they the mean daily air temperature was 5-8°C above normal.

The warm weather rapidly melted snow cover in the fields – by April 20, it only remained in eastern parts of the North-Western district, the northern half of the Volga federal district and in the north-east of Kostroma region.

The conditions were fair for winter cereals to wake up from dormancy. Soil warming accelerated, reports UkrAgroConsult.

On April 14-16, winter cereals resumed growth in the central black-earth and southern non-black earth regions, as well as in the south-west of the Volga federal district. Crops are mostly in good and fair condition. Planting of cold-resistant spring cereals and feed crops has begun in the southern half of the Central federal district. Also, farmers fertilized winter crops. During 2-3 days, spring planting was complicated by rain (precipitation totaled mostly 10-25 mm for the ten days) and too wet topsoil.

The weather in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts was variable. Air temperatures rose mostly to 15…20°C in the daytime. Growth of winter cereals was reported in most parts of the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts. The agrometeorological conditions were mainly favorable for winter crops to develop, they had good moisture supply. Planting of early spring cereals, corn, sugar beet, sunflower, soya, rape crops was in progress almost everywhere. The weather favored spring planting on most days, except for 1-2 days of rain (ten-day precipitation rates totaled mostly 1-5 mm, up to 10-15 mm in spots).
