Russia reduced the import of dairy products by more than 20%

In January-September this year, Russia reduced the import of dairy products by 22% – from 5.2 million tons to 4.05 million tons. The volume of imports decreased by almost 40% not taking into account trade with the EAEU countries. This was stated by Deputy Minister of agriculture Oksana Lut during the V International agro-industrial forum, writes The DairyNews with reference to the press service of the Ministry of agriculture.

At the same time, there is a positive dynamics of milk production in the country. For 9 months of 2018, the volume of milk production in farms of all categories increased by 1.1% and amounted to 24.6 million tons. According to the forecasts of the Ministry of agriculture, this year Russia will produce 31.5 million tons of milk, and by 2024, with the existing mechanisms of state support, this figure can be increased to 33.6 million tons.

However, as noted by Oksana Lut, the development of dairy production is hampered by a number of serious factors – weak material and technical base, worn-out state of fixed assets and insufficient technological equipment of enterprises. The solution of these issues will allow to bring the industry to the modern industrial way of development.

The state provides the dairy industry with comprehensive support aimed at improving efficiency, technological modernization of production sites, improving the genetic potential of cattle. This year, it is planned to allocate about 8 billion rubles to compensate for part of the direct capital costs in the construction and modernization of agricultural facilities.

In addition, the practice of providing subsidies to increase productivity in dairy cattle breeding will be continued – their volume in 2019 will be maintained at the level of 7.9 billion rubles. Another measure of support will be compensation up to 20% of the costs to create facilities for the production of powdered dairy products for baby food since next year. According to the Ministry of agriculture, additional support for deep processing of milk will have a positive impact on the development of the entire industry.
