Russia reducing palm oil purchases for a second month in a row

Palm oil purchases by Russia totaled 59.7 KMT in May 2017, down more than 13% from April (68.7 KMT) and down 16% from May 2016 (71 KMT). Overall, Russia imported 641.1 KMT of palm oil in September-May of the current 2016/17 season that is 11.6% less than at the same time in MY 2015/16. As a reminder, a record some 725 KMT was imported at the same time last season.

In the current 2016/17 season, palm oil imports fell due to lower purchases from major importers such as Indonesia, Malaysia and the Netherlands. However, Indonesia’s import share shrank to 78% against 86% a year ago, while the respective shares of Malaysia and the Netherlands, on the contrary, grew to 10% (from 7.6% in 2016) and 9% (5.4%).
