Russia: Сrushing capacity utilization is still an open question

Oilseed plantings in Russia have more than doubled since 2010 and totaled 12.3 Ml ha in the 2016/17 season. Their share in Russia’s overall planted acreage has also increased from 12.8% in 2010 to 15.4% in 2016.

Substantial growth was seen in oilseed production in the period of 2010 to 2016. So, the 2016/17 oilseed crop hit a high of 16.3 MMT that is twice as much as harvested in the 2010/11 season (7.5 MMT).

Assessing the outlook for Russia’s new crop of oilseeds, UkrAgroConsult expects their gross output to increase. However crushing capacity utilization is still an open question due to available production capacities surpass Russia’s whole oilseed crop since as early as 2008/09.

Owing to the implementation of new projects, the crushing industry can potentially expand its capacity by another 2-4 MMT in the coming few years.
