Russia stepping up wheat supplies to Bangladesh

According to Russia’s Ag Ministry, a Russian delegation had talks with the Food Ministry of Bangladesh on August 20-21 for negotiating the terms of Russian wheat supplies to the country.

As a result of the talks, the parties achieved an agreement on exporting up to 200 KMT of Russian milling wheat to Bangladesh by December 2017. The first cargo is expected to be shipped in September 2017, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Within the framework of agreements, the first stage of an intergovernmental project for supplying Russian wheat to Bangladesh was successfully implemented in November 2016. 200 KMT of Russian wheat was shipped under a contract between the state-owned companies JSC Prodintorg and the Directorate General of Food of the Food Ministry of Bangladesh.

The agri trade turnover between Russia and Bangladesh increased 1.7 times to USD 330 Ml in 2016. In value terms, the key commodities exported from Russia to Bangladesh in 2016 were wheat and meslin.
