Russia. Sunseed planting progress is 21% ahead of last year


According to Russia’s Ag Ministry, as of April 17, sunflower was planted on an area of 685 Th ha that is or 9.6% of the projected 7171.4 Th ha. The planting progress is 20.5% ahead of last year (568.3 Th ha in 2016).

By the same date, farmers had planted spring rape on 30.6 Th ha. This is 3.5% of its projected 879.8 Th ha and 3.7% ahead of 29.5 Th ha seeded at the same time last year. Sowing of spring rape began Penza region, the Volga federal district, reports UkrAgroConsult.

In addition, farmers in Russia’s central and southern regions began soya planting. As of April 17, this work was already complete on an area of 17.3 Th ha (0.8% of the projected 2263.8 Th ha). Its progress lags 17.2% behind last year (20.9 Th ha).
