Russia. Unfavorable conditions for emergence of winter crops

The Central and Volga federal districts enjoyed good agrometeorologial conditions for harvesting on September 10-30, and this work gained pace. Planting of winter cereals for the 2018 harvest was under way in most of the North-Western, Central and Volga federal districts. The conditions for planting, emergence and growth of winter crops were good and fair. Rain complicated planting works in some areas during 5-8 days of the month. The south of the Central federal district and the south-east of the Volga district faced unfavorable conditions for planting and emergence because of scarce soil moisture content.

Hot, mainly dry weather persisted in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts on most days in September – it was favorable for harvesting works. Winter cereals for the 2018 harvest were sown throughout the month. The agrometeorological conditions were primarily fair for emergence of winter crops. The topsoil content of productive moisture available to winter crops was locally insufficient and poor.

In most parts of European Russia the agrometeorological conditions will be mostly favorable for completing the harvest and growth of winter cereals. It will be mainly fair for their planting in the south of the territory, reports UkrAgroConsult.
