Russia. Weather conditions favored the completion of the harvest of late grains

23.10.2018

The European part of Russia, as well as in the Southern and North-Caucasian federal districts were dominated by warm dry weather on most days between October 10-20. It favored the completion of the harvest of late grains and industrial crops and growing of winter grains.

Most parts of the territory received no or little precipitation (1-5 mm over the ten days). In some regions, ten-day precipitation rates totaled 10-20 mm. Winter crops have largely adequate soil moisture in most areas of the territory.

In most parts of the territory, farmers continued harvesting late grains and sunseed under favorable conditions, reports UkrAgroConsult.

The wheat harvest is almost 99% complete, including 96% completion in Siberia. So, concerns about its underfulfilment and heavier losses fade away. The corn harvest in the country is 70% complete, with the average yield continuing to improve – now it is already just 2.5% lower than a year ago.

UkrAgroConsult sticks to its previous estimates for the grain crop in Russia.

In addition, as of October 22, Russian farmers have already sown a 0.6% (almost 100 Th ha) larger area to winter crops than projected. They seeded 17.29 Ml ha, or 7% more than by the same date last year.
