Russia. Winter crop condition is mostly good

13.11.2018

The European part of Russia was exposed to above-usual air temperatures on most days between November 1-10. The average daily air temperature was mainly 2-4°C above normal. Snow cover occasionally seen in the northern half of the territory in late October, melted in early November.

On November 3-5, air temperature in most areas peaked at +7…10°C, allowing slow growth of winter grains in the daytime. Air temperature bottomed out at -4…-1°C, locally even at -8…-6°C. Most areas received 5 to 15 mm of precipitation during the first ten days of the month, even up to 20 mm and higher in some northern areas. Growth of winter crops that ceased around October 25 did not resume in most fields on November 1-10. The agrometeorological conditions were mostly fair for winter crops to pass the first stage of hardening, reports UkrAgroConsult.

The Southern and North Caucasian federal districts received almost no precipitation. The harvest of late grains and industrial crops drew to an end in most of the territory. Winter grains were at the stages of emergence, leaf formation and tillering. Due to a soil moisture deficit, some southern parts of the territory had unfavorable agrometeorological conditions for emergence and initial growth of winter crops. For most part, crops had enough warmth, though it decreased in the northern half of the territory on some days (+5…8°C in the daytime). Crop condition is mostly good, locally fair.
