Russia’s Agriculture Ministry to launch grain interventions on August 19

Russia’s Agriculture Ministry will launch interventions of grain harvested in 2016 on August 19.

"For the purpose of regulating the market of agricultural products, commodities and food the Agriculture Ministry of Russia is starting state purchasing interventions regarding grain harvested in 2016 on August 19," the ministry reported Friday.

The plan is to launch grain intervention in Crimea, the report said.

As of August 11, grain and pulse crops have been cut from 99.5% of Crimea’s crop areas and the harvest have reached 1.5 mln tonnes of grain.

The total volume of grain purchases into Crimea’s intervention fund will depend on the supply-demand balance and market environment and may top 100,000 tonnes, the ministry said.
