Russian flour exports lag far behind last year

Russia exported 97.1 KMT of flour in H1 2016/17 that is down almost 30% from last season (137.3 KMT was in July-December 2015/16), reports UkrAgroConsult.

An important point is further switching of the key destination markets for Russian flour. While Georgia held the top position among importers of Russian flour until the 2014/15 season inclusive, it was replaced by the UAE in 2015/16. The trend towards change of the key destinations continued this season. So, the top buyer of Russian flour in H1 2016/17 was China. Supplies to China grew to 38.7 KMT that is already 7% more than exported there for the entire last season (36.2 KMT was in MY 2015/16).

Russian flour deliveries to other major markets, on the contrary, shrank substantially. In particular, those to the UAE decreased 26% to 23.7 KMT in the reporting period of MY 2016/17, while shipments to Georgia plummeted three and half times (to 5.5 KMT).

Also, noteworthy is some drop in Russian flour production in 2016 to 9714.4 KMT (down 2.4% from 2015).
