Russian pea exports continue hitting new highs


In view of considerably increased pea production in Russia in 2017, export shipments of this pulse crop from the country continue hitting new highs. So, their December volume reached a record 139.5 KMT.

In total, 710.2 KMT of peas were already shipped abroad from Russia in the first half of MY 2017/18. This is comparable with shipments for the entire last season, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Traditionally, Turkey remains the largest end market for Russian peas this season, with an export share of 44%.

Further growth is reported in pea exports from Russia to India and Bangladesh. Pakistan and the UAE also import Russian peas at a faster pace than last season.

According to preliminary data of the Russian state statistics agency, Russia harvested some 3.3 MMT of peas in 2017, i.e. 50% more than in 2016.
