Russia's losses from ASF has reached 1.5 billion rubles

Economic damage to Russia of African swine fever (ASF) amounted to almost 1.5 billion rubles, said first Deputy Minister of agriculture of Russia Dzhambulat Hatuov

For the year 2016 in 26 regions of the country were identified 239 outbreaks of ASF in domestic pigs, destroyed more than 233 thousand heads, of which about 217 on large pig farms.

"The direct economic damage from the destruction of animals amounted to almost 1.5 billion rubles, — said Dzhambulat Hatuov at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Union of pig producers. — The agriculture Ministry is taking measures to prevent a repeat of last year".

In particular, it has developed and approved rules for the pigs, determining the animal health status and control of ASF, says the press service of the Ministry of agriculture.

However, the industry shows good momentum of development. Since 2008, put into operation and reconstructed more than 500 pig-breeding complexes and farms, increasing production by 61.4% or 1.65 million tonnes, said the Deputy Minister. Thus, during this period the production volumes of selhozpredpriyatiyah increased by almost 2 times.

"In 2016 the production of pigs increased by 9.4% and amounted to 4.35 million tons, the highest growth in livestock. Experts estimate that in 2017, production growth will continue, and we will get a plus more than 5%. Thus, the annual rate will increase to 4.57 million tons", — quotes the Ministry of agriculture Jambulat hatuova.
