Saudi Arabia tenders to buy 720,000 tonnes of feed barley

27.11.2017

Saudi Arabia's main state wheat buying agency, the Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO), said on Thursday it has issued an international tender to purchase 720,000 tonnes of animal feed barely. The tender deadline is November 24, it said. The barley is sought from global suppliers for arrival in Saudi Arabia during January and February 2018, SAGO governor Ahmad Al Fares said.

The tender seeks 12 individual consignments of 60,000 tonnes. The consignments can be up to 10 percent larger or smaller than 60,000 tonnes, SAGO said. Some 360,000 tonnes will be distributed between Saudi Arabia's Red Sea ports and 360,000 tonnes will be shipped to the country's Gulf ports. Saudi Arabia, one of the world's largest importers of barley, expects to reduce imports of the grain to 8 million tonnes this marketing season from 9.1 million tonnes in the previous season as part of its efforts to substitute domestic barley consumption with corn and soybeans.

In its last reported barely tender on October 2, SAGO bought 540,000 tonnes for arrival during November and December with European, Black Sea, North and South American and Australian origins offered.
