Second corn crop harvest starts in key parts of Brazil

The second corn crop, or the crop harvested in the winter, has already started in Brazil. In key states, like Mato Grosso and Paraná, the works have already started and reached slightly over one percent for their respective surfaces. In Mato Grosso, according to the state’s Institute of Agricultural Economics, the volume harvested would be 28.o9 million metric tons, which is 47.1 percent higher than last year. In Paraná, the crop size would be 13.87 million metric tons, a 36 percent hike compared to 2016.

According to the Center for Advanced Studies on Agricultural Economics of the University of São Paulo, the harvest did not reflect yet on prices and the reason would be “an eye for the export market”, which is still slow.
