Share of Ukraine’s winter rape plantings in good and fair condition increased to 88.6%

The period of December 11-20 featured abnormally warm weather for this time of year. Precipitation in the form of rain with fog and strong wind occurred almost all over the country – in its southern, eastern and central parts. It sleeted in the rest of Ukraine. The average air temperature varied from 0.7ºС to 9.0ºС that is 7.5-9.5ºС above normal and 9.5-12.5ºС above its mean level registered at the same time last year.

Daytime air temperatures peaked at +15ºС (Kherson region). Late in the week, the lowest air temperature was registered 5ºС below freeze (Carpathian areas).

Precipitation in the form of rain and snow was observed all over the country. It considerably replenished moisture content in the topsoil layer.

Favorable weather leads to further emergence of winter crops. According to the Ag Ministry, winter rape emerged on 98.4% of its planted area by December 21 against 92.6% a year ago. In general, the condition of winter crops is assessed as good.
