A group of South Korean mills led by Daehan Flour Mill Co Ltd bought a total of 100,000 tonnes of wheat to be sourced from Australia in a tender which closed on Friday, European traders said.

The deals involved different wheat grades and was made in two 50,000 tonne purchases, they said. The first purchase for arrival between Feb. 15-28, 2017, was bought from trading house CBH and comprised 45,350 tonnes of Australian standard white wheat of 10.3 to 11.0 percent protein content bought at $206.50 a tonne FOB and 4,650 tonnes of Australian hard wheat of a minimum 11.5 percent protein content bought at $218.00 a tonne FOB, traders said.

The second consignment for arrival between March 1-15, 2017, was bought from Glencore and comprised 40,000 tonnes of Australian standard white of 10.3-11.0 percent protein bought at $206.50 a tonne FOB, 5,200 tonnes of Australian hard wheat of a minimum 11.5 percent protein bought at $217.50 a tonne FOB and 4,800 tonnes of Australian premium wheat of a minimum 10.5 percent protein bought at $199.00 a tonne FOB, they said.

Australia is expecting a near-record wheat harvest this year although recent rain has caused worry about yield losses.
