Sunflower planting in Ukraine outpaced last year


According to the Ag Ministry of Ukraine, farmers planted sunflower on 4455.6 Th ha as of May 11 – this is 83% of the officially planned 5390.3 Th ha. Owing to weather improvement, growers intensified sunflower planting and caught up with last year’s progress this past week, even outpaced it by 2.8%. 4335 Th ha of sunflower was seeded as of the same time a year ago, reports UkrAgroConsult.

As of May 11, soya was planted on an area of 1259.9 Th ha that is 65% of its officially forecast area (1948.4 Th ha). The lag behind last year remains, but it shrank to 7.7% over the reporting week. So, soya plantings already totaled 1365 Th ha as of the same date in 2016.
