Taiwan ships black pigs to Hong Kong

Taiwan shipped 100 black pigs from Pingtung County to Hong Kong in January, marking the first time Taiwan exported pigs since an outbreak of FMD in 2008. A report by Taipei Times said the pigs came from the farm of Lee Jung-chun, who said the pigs averaged 60kg.

Although Taiwan remains on the list of FMD countries, Taiwan and Hong Kong have worked out an agreement after an inspection was done. Pingtung County Department of Agriculture Deputy Director Cheng Yung-yu said the government is working to have Taiwan removed from the list of countries with FMD.
