Thai chicken meat re-enters China

Thailand has launched its first shipment of 14 containers of chicken meat worth around USD 1.1 million to China’s Yunnan Province. China banned poultry imports from Thailand following the bird flu outbreak in 2004. Ren Yisheng, China’s Consul General to Thailand said: “China has been closely following the development of control systems of the poultry industry.”

Niwat Sutemechaikul, Deputy Secretary of Thailand’s Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry said chicken meat accounts for 85% of all kinds of meat exported to the world from the country, adding that Thailand’s poultry farming system has been upgraded to meet international standards. Seven Thai companies have been approved to export frozen chicken meat to China.
