Thailand. Government approves budget to support corn farmers

The Thai cabinet has approved a new measure to help corn farmers. Nattaporn Jatusripitak, Advisor to the Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, said corn harvested in October amounted to 1.11 million tonnes. Due to rains in the past few months the crop has a higher level of moisture making it hard for farmers to ensure the quality before they can sell it to feedmills.

Corn prices are therefore, likely to fall further and the cabinet has approved a budget of USD 45.27 million for Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives to lend to corn farmers. The program will run from November 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.
