Thailand stalls with US pork imports


The Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Kritsada Boonrat affirmed that no conclusion has been reached on pork imports from the US. The ministry needs at least a year to study the impact on Thai consumers’ health.

Following a meeting with the US Ambassador to Thailand, Glyn T Davies, Mr Kritsada told the media: “Thai people not only consume the meat, but they also consume the internal organs of the pig. US pork contain leanness-enhancing agents and we don’t know if this would have a negative health impact in the long run.”
