The number of cows in Russia fell by 1.5% in January-February


At the end of February 2017, the number of cows in farms of all categories in comparison with the same level of 2016 was less than 1.5% (at the end of February 2016 – 1.6%) and amounted to 8.3 million head

In the case of corporate farms the reduction in the number is due largely to the intensification of production and update herd more productive livestock (what is the reason for the increase in milk production in corporate farms and capacity of the breeding stock).

A reduction in livestock smallholders associated with the design of the households in K(f)X and IE, as well as the General trend of urbanization and difficult economic situation of households.

The greatest decrease in the number of cows in 2016 in all categories of farms (in absolute terms) were recorded in the Republic of Kalmykia, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Omsk and Orenburg regions, the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and Altai Krai.

The greatest number of cows remained in the Republic of Dagestan, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Republic of Tatarstan, the Altai Krai, the Republic of Kalmykia.
